Biography
Prof. Cristian Bovo
Full Professor of Power Systems at University of Pavia
Research activity focuses on electric power systems, electricity markets, optimal power flow, ancillary services, and smart distribution networks, with particular emphasis on optimization-based and AI-driven methodologies for transmission and distribution network planning and operation in liberalized energy markets.
Cristian Bovo received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 1998, and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2002.
In 2002, he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano as Assistant Professor, where he carried out research activities on electric power systems, electricity markets, optimization methodologies, and smart grid technologies. Since 2015, he has served as Associate Professor of Electric Power Systems at Politecnico di Milano, and in 2021 he joined the University of Pavia. Since 2023, he has been Full Professor of Electric Power Systems in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pavia.
Research interests include electricity markets, smart grids, optimization techniques, renewable energy integration, ancillary services, power system security, active distribution networks, and methodologies for transmission and distribution system operation and planning.
He has established long-term collaborations with TSOs, DSOs, industrial partners and research institutions, including Terna, Siemens, RSE and CESI, working on advanced methodologies for distribution system management, market modelling, network planning and grid resilience. At the University of Pavia, he teaches graduate courses in Electric Power Systems and Electricity Markets, and he is actively involved in doctoral education and research activities in the field of energy transition and smart grid technologies.
