Biography
Prof. Alessandro Bosisio
Associate Professor of Power Systems
Research activity focuses on distribution network planning and operation, smart grids, renewable energy integration, local flexibility markets, asset management, and AI-based methodologies for modern MV/LV networks, with a strong emphasis on GIS-based approaches, machine learning, and industry-driven applied research.
Alessandro Bosisio received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Electrical Engineering and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2008, 2011 and 2015, respectively.
In 2012, he joined the Electric Power Systems group at Politecnico di Milano, where he researched the planning and operation of electrical distribution networks, smart grids, and the integration of distributed generation, working in close collaboration with major Italian TSOs and DSOs.
From 2016 to 2022, he held several research fellow and research associate positions at Politecnico di Milano, and in 2022, he joined the University of Pavia, where he is currently Associate Professor of Electric Power Systems in the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering.
Research interests include planning and operation of transmission and distribution networks, grid resilience and reliability, integration of renewable energy sources, local flexibility markets, and the application of GIS‑based methods, big data analytics and machine learning to smart grids and asset management.
He has established long‑term collaborations with TSOs,DSOs and energy companies (including Unareti/A2A, Terna, RSE, EDP Renewables, Maire Tecnimont and Siemens) and at the University of Pavia he teaches the courses “Planning and Operation of Power Systems” and “Systems and Technologies for the Smart Grid” in the Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He is a member of several national and international technical bodies, including the IEEE Power & Energy Society, AEIT, CIRED and the Italian CEI technical committees on power systems and grid connection. He serves on the editorial boards of sector journals, as a guest editor for special issues on smart grids and the digitalization of distribution networks, and is part of the doctoral faculty and academic boards in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pavia.
