Biography

Rouzbeh Shirvani PhD Candidate – Electrical and Electronic Engineering, University of Pavia
Research activity focuses on optimization methodologies for ancillary services provided by renewable energy sources and energy storage systems, electricity market modeling and forecasting, stochastic optimization, climate-informed generation modeling, predictive maintenance, and data-driven approaches for modern transmission and distribution power systems.
Rouzbeh Shirvani received his B.Sc. in Energy Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) in 2019 and his M.Sc. in Energy Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2023. In 2023, he joined the University of Pavia as a Ph.D. researcher in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Alessandro Bosisio and supported by a PNRR DM 117/2023 scholarship co-funded by EDP Renewables Italia.
His Ph.D. research focuses on mathematical models for optimizing the provision of ancillary services by renewable energy sources and energy storage systems. Since 2025, he has been carrying out a research placement in the Asset Management Department of EDP Renewables, and in 2026 he joined the University of Birmingham as a Visiting Researcher.
Research interests include the application of data-driven methods and machine learning to utility-scale power systems, with a particular focus on electricity market modeling and forecasting, stochastic optimization, climate-informed generation modeling, and predictive maintenance of distribution network assets.
He has collaborated on several industrial research projects with Terna (the Italian transmission system operator), Unareti (the distribution system operator of Milan and Brescia), and RSE, working on topics spanning transmission and distribution networks, electricity markets, and asset management. At the University of Pavia, he also teaches graduate-level sessions on optimization with Python.
