Seminar on MV distribution network protection at the University of Pavia

Today, Paolo Marini, Electrical Network Studies and Methodologies Group Leader at TECNIMONT S.p.A., delivered the seminar “Introduction to Protection Philosophy for MV Distribution Networks” to Electrical Engineering students attending the course “Planning and Operation of Power Systems” at the Università degli Studi di Pavia.

During the seminar, students were introduced to the fundamental concepts and methodologies related to the protection philosophy of medium-voltage distribution networks, with particular attention to system reliability, selectivity, fault management and operational continuity in modern electrical power systems.

Drawing from his industrial experience at TECNIMONT S.p.A., Paolo Marini shared practical insights into the analysis, planning and operation of electrical distribution systems, highlighting the evolving challenges associated with network digitalization, smart grid technologies and the integration of distributed energy resources.
